Empowering Innovative Public Health Solutions

Our Mission:

Empower.

Traditional discipline methods are failing our students, leading to lost instructional time, academic setbacks, and widening equity gaps. Community Health Impact, the non-profit arm of mySHO, is on a mission to transform student discipline. We are leading a change from punishment to a proactive, evidence-based approach that promotes student well-being and maximizes instructional hours.

Our Mission

Our vision is to empower every student with equitable access to uninterrupted instruction and robust social and emotional learning (SEL). By integrating SEL as a restorative justice alternative, we aim to not only reduce suspensions but also foster emotional intelligence and create a scalable model for equitable student development.

Our Impact

We are revolutionizing student discipline and proving that a restorative approach works. Our initiative, in partnership with mySHO's innovative platform, mySHO-GritX, allows students to engage with tailored, evidence-based SEL content instead of being removed from school. This approach ensures that every moment is a learning opportunity, even when addressing behavioral challenges.

Our work directly contributes to meeting state-mandated minimum instructional hours, which are often lost through traditional suspensions. By meticulously tracking the SEL instruction delivered through mySHO-GritX, we provide schools with clear, auditable evidence of instructional time accumulated, helping them meet accountability requirements while fostering a more supportive learning environment.

A central goal of our initiative is to establish a data-driven model that can be replicated and scaled across a wide range of educational settings. We will achieve this by meticulously collecting and analyzing data on key metrics such as the reduction in out-of-school suspensions, the increase in instructional hours, and the measurable improvement in specific social and emotional learning (SEL) competencies. This data will not only demonstrate the effectiveness of our restorative justice alternative but also provide a clear, evidence-based blueprint for other schools and districts to follow. By documenting our processes, outcomes, and implementation strategies, we will create a comprehensive framework that educational leaders can use to meet state-mandated instructional hour requirements and foster a more supportive and equitable learning environment, ultimately proving that this approach is a viable and powerful alternative to traditional disciplinary methods.

Our Programs

Our core program is the mySHO Restorative Justice Initiative for Students. This program replaces traditional, punitive suspensions with structured, evidence-based SEL instruction. We use the mySHO-GritX platform, which provides hundreds of pre-loaded exercises designed to cultivate crucial social and emotional competencies like self-awareness, self-management, and responsible decision-making.

By using our programs, students develop the skills they need to address the root causes of their behavior, leading to better outcomes both inside and outside the classroom. This is not just about reducing suspensions—it's about preparing students for academic and life success.
